Not the Same Old Sheets

Not the Same Old Sheets

Sheets, why should you care?

Do you remember the first pair of sheets you bought? If you don’t, don’t worry, it’s not really your fault.

After all, sheets are pretty much the same; a thin piece of fabric that stretches over our bed and pillows. Some even say that sheets don’t have to do much… Of course, you could purchase some newer, more contemporary sheets, but the composition of those will be pretty much the same as the plain-Jane pair you bought in your freshman year of college. Or would they?

Why is this important?

Now, do you remember the first special piece of clothing you got? The answer is likely closer to a yes.

Many of us have that one piece of fashionwear that we love, and every time we use it; it just makes our day. Now here’s the thing about sheets: we use them every day, just like clothes (for most people, that is). So why don’t we treat them the same?

The reality is that as many of us get older, rent that first apartment with your friends, perhaps even buy your own place, we begin to realize how important these small things are. The little things that you use everyday matter. And more—these little moments compound over time to form your quality of life.

To prove this, all you need to do is lay down in your bed after a long day. That incredible feeling of being done for the day and comfortably resting to make the most of the next is unbeatable. It only gets better when you think about how insanely awesome what you are laying on is, and that you’ll wake up to this tomorrow and the day after.

Samba Fresh Blend™

Our hope with Samba Fresh Blend™ (link to product page) is for it to be one of your first special bedding pieces. Like that cool t-shirt that brings a smile to your face every time, we want you to have this experience every time you touch your bed. Our sheets aren’t the type that you lay on and forget about, but instead they work to make every moment you use them a special one.

The reason why we say this is because the Fresh Blend™ is inherently different that other fabrics. They are produced in sustainable fashion from recycled and 100% bio-degradable materials, and they are incredibly smooth. The fabric was also designed to be thinner than most, offering unmatched breathability and temperature control, all while the anti-microbial properties work to reduce the number of times you have to wash them.

The Catalogue Issue

Now you may be wondering, why is that the Fresh Blend™ is different from any other sheets? And how?

To understand how we were able to design the Fresh Blend™ to be something innovative, we must first understand the issue behind the sheets industry.

As we came to discover, the process of purchasing sheets from a supplier is awfully dull. You link up with a producer, they offer you a catalogue full of options, and most brands end up sticking with something like Lyocell (nothing against bamboo, but the novelty has certainly faded already).

At heart, the real problem is MOQ, or minimum order quantity. After selecting something like Lyocell,  these brands are then asked to purchase at least 10,000 units (which is expensive) and are then stuck with a product they can’t change or iterate on.

If a brand were to try to do something different, they would have to design the textile from scratch and establish their own operations but is financially unfeasible for a brand just starting out. So as a result, most sheets you see on the market are indeed just the same.

The branding changes, the way in which they are pitched, but you are still sleeping in the same materials you would otherwise. Brands struggle to see how they will market themselves, and in turn we end up with brand differentiators rather than product or experience differentiators.

The Samba Difference

So how did we do it? We ended up not asking our suppliers for options, but instead chose to partner with them directly to see what latest innovation they were excited about. What did they want to test out and where did see the market going.

In turn, we worked together to create something that has never been done before. Due to our relationships with our partners, the MOQ issue was minimized to allow us to experiment and design a textile based on what we were looking for, not what was being offered in a catalogue. As a result, you won’t be able to find the Fresh Blend™ in a generic purchase menu.

Our Goal

Our goal is to continue to use our differentiated supply chain to produce textiles that are innovative and stimulating. We want to fill your life with exciting pieces that make your day and improve your life—in bedding and in home essentials that matter the most to you—and turn the boring upside down.

We are beyond excited to embark on this journey and we hope you are too!

Reach out to us here if you have any questions or suggestions, we would love to hear from you!
